About DSC and DEI

Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI), a 109-year-old institution located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, is committed to delivering inclusive, quality education to the last, the least, the lowest, and the lost. DEI exemplifies a remarkable synergy between academia and its founding community—Dayalbagh (meaning Garden of the Merciful), a self-reliant spiritual community rooted in service and holistic development.
Dayalbagh is home to followers of the Radhasoami Faith, spiritual seekers who practice Ultra-Transcendental Meditation (Sehaj Surat Shabd Yoga). In today’s increasingly fragmented world, Dayalbagh stands as a beacon of harmony and sustainability—often described as a modern-day utopia. With over 500,000 followers worldwide, the community connects daily through a unique ‘Virtuous Virtual Reality Mode’, made possible by 484±1 ICT-enabled centres around the globe. These daily interactions embody the Trinity of Education, placing Spiritual Education at the highest level.
The spiritual foundation of this movement was laid in 1818 by Param Purush Puran Dhani Soami Ji Maharaj, the first Spiritual Master. The present Spiritual Master, Most Revered Prof. Prem Saran Satsangi Sahab, is a globally respected technologist and the Father of the Systems Movement in India. A graduate of Michigan State University (USA) and a doctoral scholar from the University of Waterloo (Canada), Prof. Satsangi served at IIT Delhi before taking voluntary retirement in 1994 to become the honorary Director and later Vice-Chancellor of DEI. On 18th May 2003, he was acclaimed as the eighth Spiritual Master of the Radhasoami Faith by a congregation of 25,000 followers.
Prof. Satsangi also chairs the Advisory Committee on Education, the highest non-statutory policy body of DEI and its sponsoring organization, the Radhasoami Satsang Sabha, Dayalbagh. Under his visionary leadership, DEI has pioneered a unique transdisciplinary research frontier titled “Towards Evolutionary Arts, Science, and Engineering of Consciousness (TEASE and Consciousness)”. His groundbreaking work in this field earned one of the highest altmetric scores ever for a research publication.
A hallmark initiative under this vision is the Dayalbagh Science of Consciousness (DSC) Conference, held every year on 1st January, celebrated as Education Day and DSC Day in DEI and Dayalbagh. Chaired by Rev. Prof. Satsangi himself, this event is co-organized internationally with the University of Waterloo (Canada)University of Birmingham (UK), and University of Kiel (Germany).
The Winter Session of DSC 2021 is a global virtual congregation organized by DEI and its sponsoring body, the Radhasoami Satsang Sabha. True to its mission, DEI continues to pursue excellence in Consciousness Studies, Sustainable Agriculture, and Social Entrepreneurship. Since its inception, Consciousness Studies has been at the core of DEI’s educational philosophy.
The institute’s global engagement in the field gained momentum in 2008 with the National Systems Conference organized by the Systems Society of India. A major milestone followed in 2012, when DEI launched the East-West Forum at the prestigious The Science of Consciousness (TSC) conference, organized by the University of Arizona, Tucson. DEI led the East-West Forum segment at every TSC event from 2012 to 2018.
In 2019, DEI launched its own independent, bi-annual DSC conference series, beginning with a landmark international event hosted at the University of Waterloo, Canada. The virtual edition in May 2020 drew nearly 100,000 participants from 21 countries, establishing DSC as one of the most dynamic and inclusive platforms for philosophers, scientists, and technologists engaged in consciousness research.
With an ever-growing global community and a transformative educational vision, DEI continues to serve as a nexus of innovation, ethics, and spiritual progress in higher education.
